Day#2 – Novena in honour of Nativity of Our Lady
7.00 pm Mass, St. Pius X Church
(Deacon Roque Lobo)

A man dreamt that he was building a ladder from earth to Heaven. When he did a good deed, the ladder went up a little. And when he did a very good deed, the ladder went up higher. And when he gave money to the poor, the ladder went up very fast. Time to time, over the year, the ladder kept on going up and up, till it went above the clouds and almost touched heaven.. He thought to himself, after he died, he would be taken straight into heaven. Suddenly a voice thundered from heaven, “He who enters through another way is a thief and a robber”. Down came the ladder and the voice continued, “You cannot go to heaven on your own! You need the grace of God”.

Lk 1:28 — The Angel Gabriel, at the moment of the Annunciation, […] Hail Mary, full of grace […]

(There was) revealed a new name that God had chosen for Mary.[…] and so ‘Full of Grace’ is a title, a name given by God to Mary […] Its an act of God!

In scripture, Abraham was given a new name, his name was Abram.
Sarah was the new name for Sara.
Peter was the new name for Simon [..]
Now, we see Mary becoming the Mother of God, Mother of the Church […].

The Catholic Church teaches that from the moment of conception, Mary was free from the stain of Original Sin. By calling Mary — full of grace — we can call her the Immaculate Conception. The word ‘immaculate’ […].

(In the OT), the Ark of the Covenant contained
  • manna (that is what the Jews called) ‘bread from heaven’,
  • the two stone tablets on which were the Ten Commandments – the Word of God, and
  • the staff of Aaron […] the high priest […]

… and we know from the Old Testament the flight from Egypt […], (it was Mary — the Ark of the New Covenant) who carried in her womb — Jesus,

  • the real ‘Bread from Heaven’,
  • the real Word of God, and
  • the High Priest of the New Covenant […]

God preserved Mary from original sin in order to present a worthy mother for the Son of God […]

One can say Mary is the beginning of the Church […]

Mary lived a life full grace […] We know she visited her cousin, Elizabeth […]
She gave herself to others and disciples of Jesus […]

Mary was with the disciples after the resurrection of Jesus […]

Mary was listening to God’s Word […] Like Mary, we, too, can be ‘full of grace’ […]  When the grace of God fills us, we must not keep it to ourselves but share it with others […] Some are rejoicing; you rejoice with them. Those who are broken hearted; you cry with them […]
