An option for the marginalized
History
St.Pius X CCO was established in 2001. As per the directives of the Archdiocese of Bombay, the CCO had planned and executed many activities for the poor and marginalized of the parish. Sr.Carola CTC, took active role along with Fr.Ivo , the parish priest towards establishing the CCO.
CCO at St.Pius, is working for the upliftment of marginalized and specially empowerment of women. With the support of the church and the continuous support of the dean and the parish priest, the CCO is running smoothly. It collaborates with CSA (Center for Social Action), Goregoan.
Fr.Cleophas, the parish priest, is the overall incharge of the CCO. He is ably assisted with the execution of all activities and programs by the director Sr.Allison, CTC(2003–06), who has been active since 2013 till date. The CCO is linked to key associations of the parish that are active. They are SVP, family cell, women’s cell and senior citizen cell. They work in co-ordination with each other.
The CCO is engaged with many activities
- Tuition classes for 40 students from Monday to Friday.
- Tailoring classes are held three times a week
- Computer classes from Monday to Friday.
- Along with Prison Ministry, visit thane Jail and share information on many health issues.
- Along with women’s cell address women’s issues.
- Family cell counseling
- Family Visits
- Health clinic
- Legal Aid Cell
- Marriage bureau is opened every Sunday
- Domestic workers meeting
- English speaking classes
- Employment Bureau
- Helping people avail various government schemes (widow pension)
- SHGs
- Library
- Giving awareness programs for children and women as per their needs.
- Training of domestic workers
- Attending Morchas, Rallies on the various issues related to government entitlements
- Networking with various NGOs, government organizations (Jan Shiskhan Sansthan at Dharavi), RKS(Rationing Kruti Samiti), ward office, Mahila Mukti Manch.

The CCO has been actively involved in the community to in various activities like mobilizing women into groups through the formation and strengthening of SHGs. From last year onwards Sr.Allison is working in vijay nagar, Indira Nagar and Other areas in mobilizing domestic workers. They have been meeting them once a month on thrusdays and they were capacitated on various issues concerning domestic workers.
Future plans
To identify the domestic workers women comprising of different areas in Mulund and give them the capacity building training from CSA Staff and Vocational training from Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)
