An option for the marginalized

 

History

St.Pius X CCO was established in 2001. As per the directives of the Archdiocese of Bombay, the CCO had planned and executed many activities for the poor and marginalized of the parish. Sr. Carola CTC, took active role along with Fr. Ivo , the then parish priest — towards establishing the CCO.

CCO at St. Pius X, is working for the upliftment of marginalized and specially empowerment of women. With the support of the church and the continuous support of the dean and the parish priest, the CCO is running smoothly. It collaborates with CSA (Center for Social Action), Goregoan.

The parish priest, is the overall incharge of the CCO. He is assisted by Sr. Vivian with the execution of all activities and programs. The CCO is linked to the SVP, Family Cell, Women’s Cell and Senior Citizen Cell, who work in co-ordination with each other.

 

The CCO is engaged with many activities

  1. Tuition classes for 40 students from Monday to Friday.
  2. Tailoring classes are held three times a week
  3. Computer classes from Monday to Friday.
  4. Along with Prison Ministry, visit thane Jail and share information on many health issues.
  5. Along with women’s cell address women’s issues.
  6. Family cell counseling
  7. Family Visits
  8. Health clinic
  9. Legal Aid Cell
  10. Marriage bureau is opened every Sunday
  11. Domestic workers meeting
  12. English speaking classes
  13. Employment Bureau
  14. Helping people avail various government schemes (widow pension)
  15. SHGs
  16. Library
  17. Giving awareness programs for children and women as per their needs.
  18. Training of domestic workers
  19. Attending Morchas, Rallies on the various issues related to government entitlements
  20. Networking with various NGOs, government organizations (Jan Shiskhan Sansthan at Dharavi), RKS (Rationing Kruti Samiti), ward office, Mahila Mukti Manch.

The CCO has been actively involved in the community mobilizing women into SHGs, meeting them once a month on Thursdays.

Future plans

To identify the domestic workers women comprising of different areas in Mulund and give them the capacity building training from CSA Staff and Vocational training from Jan Shikshan Sansthan (JSS)
