To be an altar server

… is a special honor and a great privilege in the Catholic Church. One can look upon being an altar server as a special and unique ministry by which you, a young person, can help to spread the word and the love of Christ through your actions and words.

The primary role of the altar server is to assist the priest in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist (Mass) and Eucharistic Processions. This is done through specific actions and by setting an example to the congregation by active participation in the liturgy by their actions, singing of hymns, responses of the people, looking alert and sitting or standing at the appropriate times.

There are around 50 altar servers currently serving in our parish. The new Altar Servers are trained directly on the Altar and are appointed for masses in the very next week. This helps them to apply what they have learnt in the training.

Those who are present for the meeting are appointed as servers for the coming week. We have Bible Quizzes and quizzes on articles used for the celebration of the Eucharist once a month. Prizes are given for good active participation and regularity. Annual picnic is organized to appreciate and acknowledge their service.

Our Altar Servers also get an opportunity to participate at the Deanery and the Diocesan level programs.

We encourage many more boys and girls to join the Altar Servers of our parish.
